Demonology Warlock has been working on climbing the DPS charts lately, and is no longer the Shadowlands meme as we used to know it. However, even with the spell and legendary buffs, it can feel better also by playing better, and that’s even easier with some simple, beginner-friendly macros. The ones you’ll see in this post are 100% safe to use, so you don’t have to worry about that, and they’ll help a lot by reducing the amount of time you’re spending on managing your spells.
Before we begin…
There are a few things I’d like to mention before we begin talking about macros. First of all, I highly recommend having some sort of frame bar manger, like Healbot or something similar, that you can use to hover over nameplates and cast your spells. If you like Healbot, you’ll have to install it manually.
Also, the macros you’ll be seeing here are not all the ones you could potentially have. I’ve decided to only talk about the ones made for spells that are actually useful to you as a Demonology Warlock, so if anything happens to change in the future and we get some new spells, I’ll let you know in another post.
If you don’t yet know how to make macros, here’s what you should do: go into WoW, press Escape, click on Macros, and then create a new Macro for each of these spells. Just click on New, choose an icon and name your Macro, press Okay, and then paste the macro into the provided space. After that, all you need to do is Save it, and put that newly created macro into your spellbar and keybind it. And that’s it!
Demonology Warlock Macros
The first one I’d like to talk about is super useful, especially if you’ve got more Warlocks in a group, and it’s the Soulstone macro. It casts Soulstone on whoever you’re currently mousing over, whether it be their nameplate or the actual unit, and it lets your group know who’s got the Soulstone. This way, you’re making sure all of the Warlocks in a raid aren’t wasting your cooldowns on buffing the same person, and it helps your target player know they’ve been Soulstoned. Also, if you’re not hovering over anyone, the Soulstone will be cast on your current target if that’s possible.
#showtooltip Soulstone
/cast [@mouseover,help] [help] Soulstone
/s Soulstone on %t!
If you use Demonic Circle, this macro allows you to stop casting your current spell in order to cast the Demonic Circle. This pretty much saves you the trouble of having to manually interrupt the spell you’re casting, which is pretty useful if you’re in a hurry.
#showtooltip Demonic Circle
/stopcasting
/cast Demonic Circle
If you happen to like switching between talents that are both viable in some circumstances, like Mortal Coil and Howl of Terror, you can do this by using the macro that will let you automatically switch the talent you’re casting depending on what you’re talented into. This way, you’re saving a keybind slot and making your life less complicated when you switch. Also, your Mortal Coil will be cast on your mouseover target, if there’s one available.
#showtooltip
/use [talent:5/2,@mouseover,exists] Mortal Coil; [talent:5/2] Mortal Coil; [talent:5/3] Howl of Terror
If you’re in a position where you need a bit of healing after using Burning Rush, this macro will help you stop casting the Rush and will cast Drain Life, but you need to have a target for that to happen.
#showtooltip Drain Life
/cancelaura Burning Rush
/cast Drain Life
Another one of the useful macros is Shadowfury, helping you stun a group of enemies that you’re pointing your cursor at, without having to place the green circle on the floor. Just be careful where you’re pointing and try to aim for the middle of the mob pack, so that none of your enemies are standing out of the imaginary green circle.
#showtooltip Shadowfury
/cast [@cursor] Shadowfury
Finally, there’s the Soulwell macro, which announces your group that there are Healthstones to be picked up, right before placing your Soulwell. You can edit the text yourself if you don’t like mine, and you can use /say, or /party, or /raid command instead of the /yell one that I use, if you don’t feel comfortable yelling at your friends.
#showtooltip Create Soulwell
/yell Get your fel cookies!
/cast Create Soulwell
And that’s pretty much it when it comes to Demonology Macros!
