How To Get Fabious, The Secret Aquatic Mount In Nazjatar

Shadowlands isn’t currently offering a lot of opportunities to take our undewrater mounts for a ride, but that’s no reason to miss out on this one. BfA isn’t that far down in the past, so if you wanna get yourself a gorgeous seahorse mount like this, stay tuned to find out how to become a proud owner of Fabious.

He’s a gorgeous one, isn’t he?!

Where can you find Fabious?

As you already know, you’ll be getting this beauty in Nazjatar, the seemingly underwater region introduced later into BfA. If you’re a new player or haven’t played BfA as intensively, you may not have the Nazjatar portal unlocked in your BfA capital, so it’s a good idea to do the Nazjatar intro quest, which should unlock for you right after getting Mother into the Chamber of Heart upon getting to level 50. Chances are, you’re way past that, so I’ll assume you can get yourself to Nazjatar easily, and if not, I suggest looking up Nazjatar intro questline for your faction and figuring out which step you’re exactly on.

Anyway, when it comes to Fabious, this guy spawns at several different locations:

/way nazjatar 27 30
/way nazjatar 39 54
/way nazjatar 28 32
/way nazjatar 40 11
/way nazjatar 75 51
/way nazjatar 48 84
/way nazjatar 49 58

When does Fabious spawn?

Fabious spawns every 2 to 12 hours, and what’s interesting is that you mustn’t kill him when he spawns. The way to get the mount is to use your Selfie toy to take a picture of yourself and Fabious, and that’ll award you with the Fabious mount in your bag.

The problem with the NPC is that he spawns for a very short amount of time, for about two to five minutes, upon which he despawns or runs back into the water walls, and you can only get the picture with him while he’s outside, walking around. As per spotting the rare, it’s good to have a rare scanning addon like Silver Dragon, so you don’t miss it as Fabious is not hostile like we’re used to seeing while rare hunting.

What’s great about using the addon is that Fabious gets detected even before being available, when it’s still behind the water wall, so it gives you some additional time to get onto the location. If you don’t happen to have a group of people to hunt this mount with, entering Premade Groups, going into Custom, and either searching for Fabious or forming your own group will do the trick!

How should you camp Fabious?

To farm Fabious effectively, it’s good to have a raid group, or at least one person covering every spawn location, who can notify the others whenever Fabious spawns so the others can get the picture with him, too. Using the S.E.L.F.I.E. toy matters a lot, as you can’t take the ordinary printscreen of yourself and expect the mount. If you don’t have the toy from the mission Field Photography back in Draenor, I’ll assume you haven’t been to Draenor and don’t have your Garrison yet, well.. I guess your Fabious will have to wait a bit until you get the mission and obtain the toy. This is something you’ll want to do anyway if you’re a collector, as there’s a Field Photographer achievement for taking a selfie in various locations of the world. I’m still too lazy and too busy to finish it, but if you’ve got some time on your hands, it’s a cool one to have!

What happens when Fabious is up?

When you’re about to take a picture with Fabious, having the camera keybound is highly recommended, as there’s a potential to start panicking and the mount despawning while you’re desperately trying to find the toy. Therefore, come prepared, and don’t get into combat while doing all of this, because you probably won’t be getting the mount and by the time you’re out of combat, it’ll be too late. Also, make sure to spam multiple selfies, as sometimes it takes a few of them to detect Fabious on your selfies and reward you with the mount.

If you’ve paid attention to the images in this post, you may wonder how I’m getting my own Fabious to fly around like an actual flying mount. What you can do is get to the vendor in your base in Nazjatar, which is either Artisan Okata for Alliance or Finder Pruc for Horde, and purchase the Budding Deepcoral for a few Manapearls, which you can get from questing and kiling rares in Nazjatar. You can feed it to your underwater mounts by simply using the item, and that will allow all your underwater mounts to act as ordinary ones in Nazjatar. Unfortunately, you can’t do this in other regions, but it’s still a pretty cool thing to do!

Pro Selfie tip!

Here’s another tip if you happen to have a large character, like a Tauren, for example. People have found an awesome way around this, and that is emoting /lay or /kneel while taking the selfie, so your big face doesn’t end up covering the whole actual screen and the mount behind you, so keep that in mind if your big nose gets in the way too much and you don’t know what to do!

Can Fabious be killed?

In case you’re worried about someone coming over there to grief you or kill the rare because they don’t know how to get this mount. Fortunately, this has been hotfixed a while ago, and as Blizz have stated, “Fabious no longer cares about your threats, just lookin’ good.” So don’t worry about others being mean to you and killing your long-waited rare!

That’s mostly it when it comes to getting Fabious these days. If you’ve got any questions or tips of your own, drop them in the comments, and if you’re more of a visual type, and you don’t mind getting easy wins in WoW, you can check out all of this in my video – and subscribe for more awesome WoW stuff!
